Keep Track of Your Time
Once you have completed the timesheet, scan and email, or photograph and email the completed timesheet. Copy your supervisor on this email and request his/her verification of the hours in a reply-all response. This must be done at midterm, October 12, and by the final day of class, December 7, in order for you to receive full credit for your service learning. If you have any problems or questions, please, reach out right away to jnjeanfr@loyno.edu.

Learning objective: The goal of the optional Service Learning Placement is to explore cultural influence, assimilation, and preservation and to gain a better understanding of the difficulties involved in learning a new language and adapting to a foreign culture.

Preapproved service learning placements:

Catholic Charities: ESL
The Restoration Initiative for Culture and Community
Wilson Charter School (request to work with ESL)

HOW TO GET STARTED

  1. Watch the video "Getting Started with Your Service Learning Placement."

Please, note the following regarding changes to the information in the placement video:

    • Due to reductions in staff, there may not always be someone in Bobet 113. The best way to reach our office is via email (ocelts@loyno.edu) or phone (504.865.2282)
    • Due to changes in purchasing policies, there will no longer be food at the Serve Fair
    • The Serve Fair will not take place on a Thursday this semester, as it usually does. It will take place on Tuesday, September 4 from 12-2pm.

  2. Take this quiz to make sure you know everything you need to know about the placement process.
  3. Get your placement on time.  Submit your acceptance form before the deadline.
  4. Document all your hours using a service learning timesheet. Submit timesheets to the service learning office twice per semester (midterm and last day of the semester). Check the Loyola Service Learning Calendar for deadlines.
  5. Know that your agency supervisor will submit a performance evaluation on your work at the end of the semester. This evaluation will be go to your professor and incorporated into your class grade.
