Keep Track of Your Time
To record Service Learning time you must use the digital timesheet to log and document your service learning activity. This includes time you spend at or online with the service site, researching, gathering information, meeting with fellow students or agency representatives, and executing aspects of your service learning. Time should be recorded daily to log the start and end of each service assignment. Completed time logs are due twice per semester at midterm, October 13, and by the final day of class, December 10 for review and verification. Any time submitted after these dates will not be considered for service learning credit. If you have any problems or questions, please reach out right away to ttjasper@loyno.edu.
Learning objective: Students will compare and contrast learning to recognize oppressive structures and learning from others one-on-one BY (means) simultaneously analyzing policy arguments in class and working directly with agencies dedicated to alleviate problems caused by oppressive structures.
Service Learning Placement: For your service learning component, you may choose either a placement or the Domestic Violence project.
- A placement with STAR requires attendance at the SERVE fair and an offer to serve.
- A placement with Eden House is only available for placement for both service learning and Community Based Federal Work Study.
- To participate in the service learning project with Loyola's Women's Resource Center, complete the SL Project Participation Agreement Form.
HOW TO GET STARTED
- Watch the OCELTS "Getting Started with Service Learning" video to understand the SL process.
- Set your Appointments to meet with agencies at the SERVE fair.
- Use the How to Excel in Service Learning worksheet to determine your availability for service.
- Get your placement on time. Submit your acceptance form before the deadline.
- Document all your hours using the online service learning timesheet. To access you must be logged in to Google via your "loyno.edu" email account. Time must be recorded daily to log the start and end of each service assignment. Timesheet logs are regularly monitored and are formally reviewed and verified twice per semester (midterm and last day of the semester). Check the Loyola Service Learning Calendar for deadlines. Time submitted after these dates will not be counted for that period.
- Know that your agency supervisor will submit a performance evaluation on your work at the end of the semester. This evaluation will go to your professor and be incorporated into your class grade.
