Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO): Refugee and Immigration Services
Catholic Charities Refugee Services supports refugee, immigrant, and other newcomer families as they build stable and successful lives in their new communities. Through educational, social, and supportive services, Refugee Services helps children, youth, and families access resources that promote academic success, community integration, and self-sufficiency.
TUTORING & YOUTH ACADEMIC SUPPORT:
- Meet with refugee and immigrant students to provide one-on-one or small-group academic support.
- Tutors assist with homework and core academic subjects while helping students build confidence, strengthen study skills, and achieve their educational goals.
- Volunteers work with culturally and linguistically diverse youth and develop skills relevant to education, social work, and related fields.
Students will develop cross-cultural communication skills and gain a deeper understanding of the refugee and immigrant experience in the Greater New Orleans area. Through tutoring, service learners will gain hands-on experience in youth development, educational support, and working with multilingual learners while building skills relevant to careers in education, social work, counseling, linguistics, and other professions.
